A 17-year-old high school swimmer in Anchorage, Alaska was disqualified and stripped of her win after a referee ruled she had violated “uniform regulations” because he was able to see too much of her butt cheeks.
The girl’s school-issued, one-piece swimsuit was apparently riding up a bit too much during her race and the ref disqualified her for showing her “intergluteal cleft.” He later clarified, explaining that the swimsuit “was so far up I could see butt cheek touching butt cheek.”
The school district says it is reviewing the incident and say it appears to be a difference of opinion in the “interpretation of the rules governing high school swim uniforms.” (Deadspin)
Hot Takes:
- It sounds like the suit simply rode up as she was swimming. It happens. disqualifying her is ridiculous.
- Butt cheeks or no butt cheeks, she won the race, It’s not fair to strip her of the win.
- Hey rules are rules. They need to be followed.
- It’s disturbing to think that there’s a ref at high school swim meets checking out swimmers’ butts.
