SZA shut down Sephora.
No, we’re not talking about the TDE singer going on a shopping spree and closing the doors to the public. The cosmetics chain will shutter all locations on Wednesday to hold diversity training sessions for employees. The company-wide training came about after SZA tweeted about a negative experience at a Calabasas, California location, where she was racially profiled by store management and security.
Sephora responded publicly last month, telling SZA that she is “part of the Sephora family” and stating the brand’s commitment to making “every member of our community feels welcome and included at our stores.” (People)
Hot Takes:
- Rihanna noticed how Sephora treated SZA and hooked her up with a Fenty Beauty gift card.
- This reminds me of when Starbucks closed stores for diversity training last year.
- Sometimes people (and brands) need to get called out so they can do better.
- Will this really make a difference or is it just a big show?
