The Trump administration’s plan to use $3.6 billion in military funds on border wall construction was blocked Tuesday by a federal judge in El Paso.
District Court Judge David Briones, who was appointed during the Clinton administration, ruled that the funds can’t be used to build 175 miles of steel-barrier wall along the border that separates the U.S. from Mexico.
The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed in October by the El Paso County and Border Network for Human Rights, which accused Donald Trump of overstepping his authority when he declared a national emergency to get more funding for the wall. (FOX News)
Hot Takes:
- The wall was one of Trump’s big promises during his 2016 campaign.
- Trump had trouble getting congressional support for the wall.
- Military funds don’t seem appropriate unless we’re actually at war with Mexico.
