The Norwegian Nobel Committee has named its recipient of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.
This year’s prize will go to Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed “for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea.”
Ahmed worked out a peace deal with Eritrea’s president last year ending a 20-year-conflict which killed 70,000 people. Other nominees for the prize included Swedish climate activist Greta Thunber, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and Donald Trump. (USA Today)
Hot Takes:
- If you’re not aware of Abiy Ahmed, be sure to look him up.
- President Trump was nominated by members of the Republican party, of course.
- Trump has not yet commented on the committee’s decision but he’s not going to be happy. He really wants a Nobel prize.
