It was a good weekend for Disney. Despite mediocre reviews, the new Lion King movie opened at number-one with $185 million. That’s the best July debut in history, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which earned $169.1 million in 2011. Meanwhile, the company’s Avengers: Endgame has become the highest grossest movie of all time at the global box office. With $2.79 billion, the Marvel flick has edged out Avatar, which had been the champ for the past 10 years.
After two weekends at number-one, Spider-Man: Far From Home dropped to second with $21 million.
Toy Story 4 fell a spot to number-three with $14.6 million, while Crawl was fourth with $6 million and Yesterday was fifth with $5.1 million.
