Iran is at it again. Ships belonging to the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard tried to block a British oil tanker as it sailed through the Persian Gulf on Wednesday.
This latest maritime incident adds to the already growing tension between the west and Iran. A British navy vessel, which was accompanied the oil tanker, had to give verbal warnings to the Iranian ship to move out of its way. No shots were fired and the Iranian ship retreated.
The British government issued a statement saying, “We are concerned by this action and continue to urge the Iranian authorities to de-escalate the situation in the region.” Iran, meanwhile, denies the accusation and says there was no encounter with the British tanker. (USA Today)
